VERBEEK DISAPPOINTED

AZ Alkmaar head coach Gertjan Verbeek has said that he is extremely disappointed with the way his team crumbled in the match against FC Twente recently. Despite being in the frame for winning the title only a few weeks ago, AZ Alkmaar have slipped in the league due to their poor form. It continued once again in the match against FC Twente. AZ Alkmaar only managed a 2-2 draw against the former Champions. As a result, Gertjan Verbeek is hoping that his team put in a good performance against PSV during the weekend. It is the only way to keep the pressure on the leaders Ajax according to the manager.

Gertjan Verbeek’s AZ Alkmaar managed to stay in touch with Ajax at the top of the table, but the draw with FC Twente has taken its toll. They have now slipped in the league, which has handed Ajax a three-point advantage at the top of the table. Even though they are currently in the second position, there is a good chance that they might slip into the position within the end of the month. This is due to the number of important fixtures that AZ Alkmaar will have over the next few weeks.

“It was a must win game against Twente. But we failed to maintain pressure on the leaders, Ajax. Now, we will give our best to win against PSV despite playing away from home. We will continue to look at the top four, not only the title. It is really amazing to see such a tough competition at the top. Phillip has surprised with his moves, such as instating Georginio Wijnaldum on the right wing. However, their game play under him has not been different than Fred,” Verbeek said after the 2-2 draw with FC Twente.
