UECL: ALKMAAR DRAWN WITH DNIPRO, OTHERS

Dutch club AZ Alkmaar have known their opponents in the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) group stage after the draw took place earlier this week. AZ Alkmaar made it to the group stage after seeing off Gil Vicente from the Portuguese league in the playoffs. AZ Alkmaar thrashed their Portuguese opponents 4-0 at home in the first leg before a 2-1 away win in the second leg sealed their place in the Europa League Conference League group stage via a 6-1 aggregate win.

AZ Alkmaar have been drawn in Group E in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage this season alongside Ukrainian side Dnipro,Apollon Limassol of Cyprus and Vaduz from the Swiss top flight. It must be pointed out that Vaduz are a club from Liechtenstein, but they play their trade in the Swiss Challenge League.

Vaduz sealed their place in the Europa Conference League group stage with the 2-1 aggregate win over Austrian side Rapid Vienna. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at home to the Austrian side before Vaduz secured a big win in the second leg to qualify for the group stage. A 1-0 win away from home in the second leg was enough to see Vaduz through to the group stage. On their part, Apollon Limassol of Cyprus qualified for the Europa Conference League group stage dropped down from the Europa League after losing to Greek side Olympiacos in the playoffs.Just like what was obtainable with Apollon Limassol, Dnipro also dropped down from the Europa League after they were beaten by AEK Larnaca of Cyprus in the playoffs.

Premier League side West Ham United have been handed a tough group that can be classified as the Group of Death. They are in Group B alongside Romanian side Steaua Bucharest, Silkeborg FC of Denmark and Anderlecht FC of Belgium.
