KOEMAN WANTS TO SIGN AZ ALKMAAR WINGER FOR BARCELONA

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has registered interest in AZ Alkmaar winger Calvin Stengs and wants to sign him for Barcelona in the next transfer window. Koeman has been impressed by the young winger’s development in the Dutch league and wants the youngster in Spain.

The former Southampton manager knows Stengs well as he was the one who gave the 21-year-old his Netherlands debut. Having worked with the player at the international level, Koeman mow wants to work with the talented winger at the club level.

On his Netherlands debut handed to him by Koeman, Stengs created two assists in the emphatic 5-0 win over Estonia. Last season in the Dutch Eredivisie league, Stengs scored five goals as Alkmaar finished the season in second place. He also notched up eight assists in the league as well.

He was also on fire in the Europa League last season as he scored five goals and registered a further four assists.

Stengs is a product of the AZ Alkmaar Academy and is contracted to the club till 2023. He recently revealed that he is flattered that a top club like Barcelona are monitoring him and are interested in signing him but that he is solely focused on Alkmaar.

Should Barcelona make a move for Stengs and is finally approved by Dutch side Alkmaar, the deal would be a hugely profitable one for Ronald Koeman’s side. At such a young age, the winger still has loads of years left in him and will be a great addition to the Barca setup.

Also, with Ousmane Dembele currently battling with stings of injury crises, Stengs will have the opportunity to prove himself as he will be given more game time. Even after Dembele returns, it will be an interesting battle for places in the squad.
