KNVP Cup 2nd Round: Heerenveen Survives And Scare As Az And Willem Ii Ease Through

The second round of the KNVB Cup continued on Wednesday evening with several Eredivisie sides in action. Below is a tour of all the results.

  • Heracles 0-2 Vitesse

Vitesse is safely in the coming round after a victory over Heracles in Almelo. Martin Odegaard set Vitesse on his way with a big strike for 40 minutes before the young attacker Thomas Buitink freezed the victory at the last minute.

  • AZ Alkmaar 2-0 VVV Venlo

After three losses in the league, AZ Alkmaar returned to winning ways in the cup. After the first half which went goalless, Mats Seuntjens opened the seconds after the break and started scoring. Oussama Idrissi made it 2-0 late before Calvin Stengs winger recovered from injury after more than a year. In the last few seconds, Guus Til went down and AZ got a penalty that Stengs was made to take, but forward noticed that his spot-kick rescued.

  • Green Star 1-3 Heerenveen

Heerenveen was forced to come from behind in order to book their place in the next round at the expense of Groene Ster. Chefrino Eind gave the amateur side the lead just before the break, but Heerenveen quickly finished the second half through Ben Rienstra. The goals of Arber Zeneli and Sam Lammers then sealed a victory for the friezes.

  • Willem II 5-0 Spakenburg

Willem II are at solace in the third round after setting five goals past Spakenburg. Fran Sol scored the opening for the first ten minutes before Daniel Crowley netted a second before the break. In the second half, Donis Avdijaj netted a double to make it 4-0 before Sol wrapped the score.

  • Utrecht 5-1 ASWH

Utrecht got a little scare before they comfortably defeated the amateur side ASWH. Dick Advocaat’s side took the lead through the Gyrano Kerk, but ASWH equated thanks to Jesper van den Bosch.
