Nigerian forward CyrielDessers scored the only goal of the game to give Feyenoord a slim win over AZ Alkmaar at home in their last outing as far as this season’s Dutch Eredivisie is concerned. The Super Eagles of Nigeria player came off the bench for the final eight minutes of the AZ Alkmaar game in place of Dutchman Brian Linssen and he was able to make his mark within a short space of time.

Dessers scored in the second minute of stoppage time to break AZ Alkmaar hearts and lead his team to an important victory in the chase for the league title. His goal achieved a 1-0 win for Feyenoord and also ended their run of three straight defeats against AZ Alkmaar. UEFA European Conference League campaigners AZ Alkmaar were winless in eight matches against Feyenoord before the start of a run of three successive wins. The impressive run of three straight victories came to an end thanks in part to the late strike from Dessers.

Feyenoord have now won their last three games in the Dutch Eredivisieand the target would be to make it four league wins on the bounce when they play hosts to PEC Zwolle this weekend as club football returns on the back of the November international break. In all competitions, Feyenoord have won their last five games and they can take it to six games with victory at home to Zwolle.

The run of nine points from the last three league games has moved Feyenoord to within one point of the top two teams on the Dutch Eredivisie log having played one game less than them. The top two clubs namely defending champions Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven are on 27 points each after 12 games, while Feyenoord have 26 points after 11 games.
